Larry Scott, a 28-year veteran with diversified experience in all aspects of geophysical oil and gas exploration, joins Global Geophysical as Vice President of Worldwide Marine operations. Well-respected in the industry, Larry’s extensive technical knowledge, financial acumen, strong leadership skills and astute business development approach will serve to improve operational efficiencies and to grow Global’s marine seismic services business worldwide.
Larry began his career with Western Geophysical in 1979 as a marine seismic data processor, and later transferred to the marine operations group. During the mid-80's his interests turned to the technical aspects of seismic exploration, and he took up senior geophysicist roles in R&D and Applied Technology within Western Geophysical’s research division. During this period he became heavily involved in navigation and positioning technology for marine 3D surveys, and developed the industry's first onboard navigation post-processing system. He has managed a wide variety of operations, including conventional 2D, 3D, and 4D streamer as well as ocean bottom cable (OBC) and transition zone (TZ) operations.
Since leaving Western Geophysical in 2000, Larry has served as Vice President of EAME Marine Acquisition for Veritas DGC, Senior Vice President of GX Technology’s Integrated Seismic Solutions (ISS) business segment, and most recently as President of Offshore Hydrocarbon Mapping Inc., a division of OHM Ltd. headquartered in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Larry graduated with highest honors from the University of Texas and is an active member of SEG, EAGE, AAPG, GSH and PESGB.
“Larry has been a business associate of mine for over 20 years,” commented Richard Degner, President & CEO of Global. “We grew up together at Western Geophysical, both having worked in various applied technology capacities as well as managerial roles. We could not have a more experienced and technologically adept senior manager to steward and grow our marine division. Larry is not only one of most the talented and innovative marine managers, he is dynamic, energetic, entrepreneurial and represents the cultural values instilled in our organization.”
Duncan Riley will continue to manage marine operations during a brief transition phase, with Larry expected to assume full marine responsibilities by mid-July. Larry’s arrival enables Duncan to refocus his proficiencies as Vice President of Marketing and Sales. He will lead our worldwide business development initiatives and direct marketing and sales strategies that support our expanding operations and further entrench the Global brand throughout the industry.
